Powerlifting originally started as Weightlifting in the 1964 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, but the sport moved fully to Powerlifting rules in the 1990’s where it was first introduced in the Paralympics Games as Powerlifting in the 1992 Barcelona Games.
Within Powerlifting, there is one event ‘The Bench Press’.
Eligible Impairment Types
All individuals with a physical impairment can participate. However, individuals much have good stability in their upper body and shoulders.
Classification Classes including Cerebral Palsy athletes
There is no classification according to individuals’ degree of impairments within Powerlifting. However, individuals are classified according to their body weight.
